Avs rookie forward Gabriel Landeskog is headed to the 2012 All Star Weekend in Ottawa next week. At just nineteen years old, Gabriel is about to embark on a once in a lifetime experience. Actually, we hope Gabe will be headed to the All Star Game many times in his career, but the first one is always special.
Just nineteen years old. What an incredible honor! It made me ask myself if I received any honors at nineteen years old? Yes! I did in fact win a pie eating contest at the University of Kansas. On the other hand, that’s really something any self-respecting woman wouldn’t brag about. Okay…so that’s not my shining moment.
At nineteen years old, Gabriel has appeared in every single game for the Avs this season. To compare the two…I, on the other hand at nineteen, did not make all of my classes of the University of Kansas. There were a few Western Civilization classes I missed, but I think I made out okay.
At nineteen years old, Gabe leads the team in plus/minus, shots, and hits. I lived in a house on campus with eight other girls. The only thing I led them in was who could eat the most doughnuts after a night on the town. I really don’t want to brag about that either, to be honest. (Side note…that house was disgusting. My friend Katie got pink eye after sleeping on the couch just one time. Gross.)
At nineteen years old, what does Gabriel dream of as All Star Weekend approaches? Wowing the crowd with his amazing moves in the Rookie All Star Skills competition? At nineteen years old…what was I dreaming of? I know! Would Mike Friedman, who was in my sports broadcasting class, take me to go see the movie, “When Harry met Sally?”
On second thought, I guess there is no comparison.
