I will be the first to admit, when it comes to twitter…I'm a twit.
I have yet to embrace this ever popular form of social media, but that's nothing new. When it comes to technology, I'm usually the last one on board. I still have that old kind of TV with a HUGE back. Please know, I am not proud of this fact. However, when I heard that the people at Avalanche twitter were using the hashtag #LandyforCalder to spread the word to the good people of Twitter, I decided enough was enough. I'm on board.
How can you not be? It's good to be an Avs fan these days! The team is making an exciting playoff run, and we have a potential Calder Trophy winner in our lineup.
Of course, I'm talking about Gabriel Landeskog. Around here, we knew from the get-go that we had something special in this kid. He came to us as an eighteen year old from Sweden and now at just nineteen, plays and acts well beyond his years. Here in the area, we've had the pleasure of watching Gabriel “grow up” on the ice, but now the entire NHL is taking notice.
More and more of the “experts” nationally have been talking about Landeskog for the rookie of the year honor. No longer is he under the radar!
Now he may not end up with the most points out of any rookie, but he'll be close. He's also much more of a complete player than anyone else in the running. He leads his competition in hits, takeaways, plus/minus, and shots on goal.
While usually this is an award that is based on which rookie scores the most points, it would be wise to look at the whole picture. Just think of the possibilities Avs fans! Playoffs and a rookie of the year? It's enough to make me get a twitter account! (Well, at least think about it.)
For all of you that do, remember, the hashtag #LandyforCalder
