With under 15 games remaining, the season has the possibility of being a very special one.
Colorado has a chance to make the post season for the first time in three seasons. As we know, getting there is going to be an absolute adventure!
One of the reasons for this playoff possibility is the outstanding play of the two goaltenders: Semyon Varlamov and Jean-Sebastian Giguere. Head coach Joe Sacco was recently asked about what impressed him the most about his team this season. The first thing out of his mouth was how effective his goaltenders have been. Varly is 5-1 in his last six starts, while J.S.' fifteen wins are the most since the 2008-2009 season, when he was with the Anaheim Ducks. Obviously Sacco is impressed with the numbers, but he also really likes how the 34-year-old Giguere is rubbing off on the 23-year-old Varlamov. Specifically he mentioned that Varly has picked up Jiggy's work ethic and commitment to fitness.
Don't you love it when a plan works out? Giguere was brought in for his skills, but also for his veteran leadership. His vocal presence has been nothing but a plus on this team, and now leading by example is paying off for everyone. It's really a scenario all sports teams wish for.The older veteran player making a positive influence on the younger teammate.
Unfortunately, how many times does this really work out? Human nature says both the older and younger player are worried about themselves, not anyone else! Can?t blame them. But it's great to see on this team, egos haven't blocked something really cool here. It's been fun to watch.
Now let's see if we can watch the duo in the playoffs!
