3 things that rocked this weekend and 3 things that did not.
Rocked!
3. Victory at Pepsi Center. I realize the season was disappointing, but nothing feels better than winning your last hockey game. Of the 16 teams in the Playoffs, only one other team will get to say they won their last game of the season…(I know I know, it’s a little different but c’mon people, it felt gooooooood!)
2. Adam Foote’s Last Shift. I talked with Matt Duchene on the ice after the Overtime goal and asked him about Foote’s last shift. He was ear to ear with smiles and he said something like this…”That was ridiculous, he must have taken 3 or 4 penalties in like 20 seconds when he was pounding that guy in the corner, but that was pretty awesome. I think the refs let it go because it was Adam and they were enjoying watching it happen!” I have to admit, I caught myself punching the glass when Adam was making Teemu Hartikainen look like a rag doll caught in the jaws of an angry rottweiler.
1. Pounding seeds on Saturday. It’s no secret, I love golf. But when the sun is beaming in early April, and there are 4 good friends cracking cold beers at the same time on the number one tee box, it doesn’t get much better.
Did not Rock…
3. Rory McIlroy. He matched the worst collapse in Masters history. I didn’t enjoy it. I was pulling for the guy, and I never like to see players implode like that. I feel for Rory, I’ve been there, it makes you think twice about ever picking up a club again….and then you realize you still made over $100,000….so you go hit balls.
2. Theo Peckham. I’m sad to say I actually had him on my fantasy hockey team this year. This guy is a goon. After the hit on Matt Duchene, I wanted to have the ice crew tear down the glass so 18,000 fans could let him know how they felt about it. What a jerk. Did anyone else notice that within 1 second of smashing Duchene in the face with his shoulder that he threw his gloves off? There’s nothing like admitting guilt before the other player’s body actually lands back on the ice.
1. Walking up 18. As much as I love golf, nothing sucks as bad as having it end. All your responsibilities come back so quick. When you’re “out there”, no one can touch you, there’s no to-do-lists, no chores in the backyard, no emails to return, no phone calls to take, but when you walk up 18, there is a dark shadow of responsibility that covers the sky. I need to start playing 36 holes.
