It’s the feeling you get after leaving the dentist with healthy teeth. It’s finally getting the garage clean. It’s the smile you have when you break up with the girl who has been driving you nuts for eight months. It’s like cracking a cold one with an old buddy.
It’s a relief. It just feels good.
This team is smart. There I said it. Watching the Avalanche play hockey under the direction of Patrick Roy and his new system is refreshing. They fore-check hard. They play sound man on man defensive zone coverage. They shoot the puck! And more importantly, they believe~
I have relationships inside the locker room with some of the guys, away from hockey. What’s their take on this whole thing? One word: Awesome. They love it as much as we do. Granted, we are only 3 games into the season, BUT (and that’s a big butt and I cannot lie, you other brothers can’t deny) no other team in Avalanche franchise history has started 3-0! What? Did I just say that out loud? You mean Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy, Ray Bourque, Peter Forsberg….those teams never started the season 3-0? Nope.
line consisting of Parenteau, McGinn, and Mackinnon have combined for 12
points. There are 8 different players with goals and 15 different players have
The Anaheim Ducks finished second in the Western Conference last year. No problem, Colorado destroyed them 6-1 on Opening Night. The Nashville Predators, behind their stingy goaltender Pekka Rinne and blue liners Shea Weber and Seth Jones, they were supposed to give the Avalanche fits. Good guys win 3-1. A huge win in Toronto where the media treat hockey players like ants treat a cookie that just landed under the picnic table. No problem. Avs sneak away with a 2-1 win.
Semyon Varlamov has been outstanding. Steve Downie is a long lost descendant of the Tasmanian Devil blood line. O’Reilly and Duchene have great chemistry. Andre Benoit has been a solid addition to the back end. Cory Sarich went top shelf for crying out loud!
This is the real deal folks. I realize we have a long way to go, but let’s stop and smell the roses while it’s good. Or at least have a beer with a buddy and talk about it.
