Only 1 team wins in the end.
Hard to imagine, that at the end of an 82 game season, all of “this” could be for nothing. I could spend all of these hours in front of my computer, studying other teams, breaking down lines, creating story-lines for shows, living and breathing every second of every play…and the Avalanche could end up short of a Stanley Cup. Would all the hard work be worth it?
What about you? All of the money you spend on tickets, on your favorite players’ jersey, on your couch hanging on every moment they give you on television, is it worth it, if when it’s all said and done they don’t bring home the Holy Grail?
Yes.
Yes it is. It’s worth every penny, moment, headache, heartache and let down. This is YOUR team.
What is considered a success? Just a Cup? Ask Denver Bronco fans…was losing the Super Bowl the worst thing that ever happened in life? I hope not. They have the best team on the planet, with the greatest Quarterback to ever pick up a football and call plays.
So why do we put ourselves through all of this?
The answer is simple. We love the journey, and if you don’t, you should.
This team, these players, and THIS coach have given us hope again. They have brought back hockey to Denver. The have lit the fire in all of us, the fire we know we have for our hockey team. They have given us some incredible moments, some un-believable finishes, and yes, some heartbreaking endings, but we stay with them, because they are OUR TEAM.
So when it comes time for the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, take a moment to reflect on the season. Think back to your favorite moment watching an Avalanche game, or going to a game with your kid, think of the joy that this team has provided to all of us. Celebrate the journey.
After all, only 1 team wins the Cup.
Ask yourself, did this team win back your respect? Did they re-vive your love of the game?
If the answer is yes, then we have already won.
#whynotus
Amen.
