It was the morning of February 3rd Denver just got hammered with the biggest snow storm of the year. I slipped my feet into plastic baggies, put on my tennis shoes, covered my hands with socks and proceeded to scrape off my windshield. All of this with no coat! What can I say I had just arrived from Florida.
I guess an introduction is in order, after all I am new to Altitude and that seems like the appropriate place to start. My name is Todd Romero, I am a Colorado native born in Denver and raised in Ft. Collins. I graduated from the University of Denver in 1986 with a BA in Mass Communications and Journalism.
My on air duties here at Altitude will include being the new play-by-play voice for the Colorado Rapids. I cannot wait to get started …by the way First Kick is March 10th at Dicks Sporting Goods Park as The Rapids face the Columbus Crew.
My career has taken me many places; in fact I was here in Denver for 5 years at KUSA-TV. I had the pleasure of working with Ron Zapplo and covering the Avalanche’s first Stanley Cup Championship. I also covered both Broncos Super Bowl wins … It was a great time to be a sports anchor in Denver.
I left Denver in 2000 and it has been a long journey to get back home. 12 years to be exact! You know the deal; leave for a bigger job, more money, moving up in the world, and trying to get to the top. I spent 3 years as Sports Director in Kansas City then on to World Wrestling Entertainment where I worked for Vince McMahon. It was wild, but this is certainly not the place to tell those stories. I have spent the last 4 years in Orlando, Florida. The weather was nice and all, but there was just one problem…in fact it was the same problem I had at my other TV stops, it wasn’t Colorado.
When you are born here and spent most of your life here you get spoiled, and sometimes you do not realize how lucky you are until you venture beyond the Colorado border. Take it from a guy who has lived in every time zone… from California to Connecticut to Florida, there is no place like Colorado.
The other tough part of leaving Colorado was this; I am a total homer when it comes to sports teams. These are my teams: the Avalanche, Nuggets, Rapids, Mammoth, the Broncos, Denver University, Colorado State, and Poudre High School. As I said I am a total homer and now you will never have to guess if I am a fan of the local teams.
So that is my introduction. I am thrilled to be joining Altitude, a place where there are so many talented people many of whom I know and have watched for years.
It’s great to be home! You can take the man out of Colorado, but you can never take Colorado out of the man. Fortunately I don’t have to live with that saying anymore. I am where I want to be and that is a great thing to have in life.
